Low Carb Fruity Martinis So I am going to start this post by stating that yes, I am aware that alcohol can stall weight loss. I am also going to state again that I am just a normal person trying to stay as low carb as possible, while retaining what I have left of my sanity. When I totally restrict myself, I immediately fall off the wagon. I have to have a treat here and there, and alcohol falls in my “treat” category. It is best for everyone in my life if I can have my cocktails. Trust me. Also read : Cheese Burger Recipes How can I still get the martinis that I love, and not the carbs? I want you to know that because I am such a self–sacrificing person, I got drunk in the middle of the afternoon, all for science. Someone had to try out martini recipes, and I was the only one here, so I took one for the team. You’re welcome. I researched a lot of martini recipes. It seemed to me that the common elements in all of them were muddled fruit, vodka, a sweetener, tartness, a filler, and ice. FRUIT/HERBS This is not a necessity, it just adds favor and color. By the time you muddle it (basically just smash it in the bottom of the martini shaker) and strain it, very little of the fruit except for the flavor and color are actually getting in to your glass. Mint is great to mix in here, if you have it! You can get totally fancy if you want to. SWEETENER A lot of martinis include simple syrup or fruit puree, nectar or juice. Instead of that, I used sugar free syrup. I have coconut, vanilla, mango, cherry (like grenadine), pineapple…and zero carbs. TARTNESS I use lemon or lime juice if I need some tartness…one whole tablespoon is around 1 carb. FILLER Most martini reipes use either fruit juice or champagne. Champagne is fine, and very low carb, like 1 per glass. I tend to use Fresca or Sprite Zero. So lets get to the recipe. For my very first try I muddled some strawberries, added sugar free coconut syrup, peach vodka, and Fresca. STRAW:PEACH For my second batch I used frozen raspberries, vanilla syrup, raspberry vodka, lime juice (raspberry and vanilla is a really sweet combo), and Fresca. RASPBERRYBoth were DELICIOUS, and less than one carb each. FINAL Think of all of the possibilities! Ever used a martini shaker? Or a jigger? if you have these, that helps! If not, you can use a mason jar to shake it up, or even a pitcher to stir it.
